BC Graduate Scholarship Award Winners Jennifer Ferris

Meet the newest BC Graduate Scholarship Award Winners: Jesse Charlton and Jennifer Ferris.

The province of British Columbia has funded graduate scholarships in any field of study, with emphasis on research in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) fields, and support for Indigenous students. The scholarships of $15,000 is awarded by graduate programs and disciplinary Faculties.


Jesse Charlton

Jesse Charlton is a PhD candidate working in the Motion Analysis and Biofeedback Laboratory with Dr. Michael Hunt. His research focuses on understanding how small changes to walking patterns can mitigate biomechanical risk factors of knee osteoarthritis progression. Jesse uses combinations of custom wearable sensors and motion capture technology to gather data during walking in both laboratory and at-home settings.

Outside of research, Jesse can usually be found somewhere in the mountains.


Jennifer Ferris

Jennifer Ferris is a PhD candidate working in Dr. Lara Boyd’s Brain Behaviour Laboratory.
Jenn’s research focuses on the quantification of brain damage from stroke and cerebral small vessel disease, and the identification of markers of post-stroke cognitive and motor impairment.

Outside of the lab, Jenn loves trail & road running, and cooking tasty food.
