Application Consideration & Deadlines
Competitive selection is based on academic qualifications, letters of reference, clinical experience, and motivation to pursue graduate study as reflected in the written statement.
Interested applicants to the MSc program should complete and submit an application according to the following deadlines:

1. Review the Admission Requirements
Review the Admission Requirements to ensure that you meet the mandatory research and academic requirements. Please note that there may be additional requirements for international students.
Students must contact one or more potential faculty supervisors to discuss research interests and to confirm a supervisor (and co-supervisor, if applicable) prior to the application deadline. It is in your best interest to do so well before the application deadline.
2. Start an Online Application
Start an online application through the Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies’ online application system. The application will ask for information and/or documents in the following sections:
- Use of information
- Personal & contact details
- Academic history
- Test scores (if applicable)
- Experience and interests
- Additional questions
Applications will be considered incomplete if required sections are not completed and/or the application is not submitted prior to the application deadline.
3. Prepare Required Information & Documents
For your initial application, scanned copies of original transcripts are accepted for uploading to the online application system.
If applicable, the online application system will ask if you have completed an acceptable English language proficiency test. For more information, refer to the Admission Requirements for international students.
A minimum of three academic and/or professional references are required for admission to the MSc program. At least one reference letter should be written by an individual who has knowledge of the applicant’s academic and/or research abilities.
- Academic references are provided by individuals you have interacted with in an academic setting (e.g. referee was the professor of a course in which you were enrolled).
- Professional references are provided by individuals you have interacted with in a professional setting (e.g. referee was your supervisor at work).
In the online application system, applicants are asked to provide an email address for each referee. A unique link will be emailed to each referee, allowing them to log in to a secure site and submit an online reference, or upload a reference document as an attachment. Please note that referees are only notified by the online application system to provide an electronic reference after you have submitted your application.
- References are also accepted via Interfolio, a U.S. based electronic reference service. Interfolio references should be directed to firstname.lastname@example.org.
- Email accounts from Hotmail, Yahoo, Gmail, MSN or other free email accounts are not accepted for referees.
4. Submit Your Application
Once you have completed all of the necessary sections of the application form, pay the online application fee and submit your online application.
It is highly recommended that you submit an application well in advance of the application deadline as referees are notified to submit an electronic reference only after you have submitted an application.
5. Check Your Application Status
After submitting your application, it is the responsibility of the applicant to ensure that all references are submitted by the application deadline.
You can check the status of your application and references through the online application system. Please do not contact the Rehabilitation Sciences department for an update on the status of your application.
6. Submit Official Transcripts
If you receive an admission offer, you will have to submit official transcripts to Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies. To be considered official, academic transcripts must either be received in official university envelopes, sealed and endorsed by the issuing institution, or be received via secure electronic delivery from the issuing institution.
- International students are highly encouraged to review instructions for submitting official academic documents, as Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies outlines strict requirements for these documents.
- Current and former UBC students are not required to submit official UBC transcripts. However, please ensure that you submit official documents from all other post-secondary institutions attended for the equivalent of one year or more of full-time study (e.g. exchange year, transfer year, etc.).
