March Student of the Month: Christy Jones

Name: Christy Jones

Program: PhD

Supervisor: Dr. Lara Boyd

Tell us a little bit about your lab!

I am currently a PhD candidate in Dr. Lara Boyd’s Brain Behaviour Lab. Our lab mainly focuses on how we can help people best recover from a stroke using tools like non-invasive neurostimulation and imaging and interventions like exercise.

What project are you currently working on?

My thesis looks at developing biomarkers of movement both in stroke and healthy aging using electroencephalography (EEG). Ideally we can use these biomarkers to be able to track improvements in movement at the neural level. At the same time, I am also working with an industry partner, HealthTech Connex to translate my findings into novel neurotechnologies!

What do you like to do outside of academia?

When I am not PhD’ing you’ll generally find me in the mountains, rock climbing, mountain biking or skiing. I live in beautiful Squamish and love to be outside exploring any chance I get. I am also a part of the Rehabilitation Sciences Student Executive Committee (RSEC) and nerd out on planning events like Research Day for our department. Come find me anytime to grab a beer and chat science!

Congratulations Christy on being our featured Student of the Month for March! Interested in seeing what else our Rehabilitation Sciences students and trainees are working on? Stay tuned for our next feature!
