Vivian Wong Awarded the KBHN Implementation Skills Development Award

Congratulations to Vivian Wong for being awarded the Implementation Skills Development Award from Kids Brain Health Network! Find out more about Vivian’s award-winning research below and join us in congratulating Vivian on her stellar achievement!

Tell us a little bit about your lab! What type of research are you conducting?

I first met Dr. Stephanie Glegg when I started working at Sunny Hill Health Centre at BC Children’s Hospital. I had been advocating for knowledge translation efforts to change how children at risk of cerebral palsy could get a diagnosis sooner than they currently do in the community.  An early diagnosis facilitates the appropriate early intervention and supports that children and their families need to thrive. I knew this topic would be a wonderful fit under Stephanie’s guidance for her comprehensive expertise in implementation science, health services, and familiarity with the population as a pediatric occupational therapist. Our implementation science study aims to increase usage of diagnostic guidelines for cerebral palsy.

What award did you win, and how will this help your research?

The Implementation Skills Development Award offered by Kids Brain Health Network supports research trainees at a Canadian post-secondary or research institution working on innovative solutions that have the potential to improve the lives of children with neurodevelopmental disabilities and their caregivers in Canada. The Award allows me to complete the Level 1 certification for the Implementation Support Specialist program. As my study involves developing an intervention to change clinical practices, the training helps solidify my skills to design, implement, spread, and scale change accordingly.

What do you like to do outside of academia?

Anything food related! I also like to knit and bother my cat a lot while she sleeps.
