The Indigenous Graduate Fellowship competition has launched. Multi-year fellowships are provided to Indigenous Master’s and Doctoral students in all disciplines. Award winners are selected on the basis of academic merit through an annual competition, administered by the Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies (G+PS), with priority given to Indigenous students whose traditional territory falls, at least in part, within Canada.

  • As of January 2023, eligibility for the IGF is also open to students in professional and coursework-only Master’s programs.
  • Opportunities for (i) Indigenous PhD students in their fourth year to apply for a fifth year of funding and (ii) for research Master’s and PhD students to apply for research funding will be incorporated into the IGF program. For details, see relevant links above. Applicants apply directly to G+PS for these 2 awards.
  • On the IGF Nomination Form, graduate program will be asked if their doctoral nominees are also being recommended for funding from the 4YF program. If so, and the nominee is subsequently ranked high enough to be offered IGF funding, the student will receive the 4YF and an IGF top up of $5,000 per year for the duration of their 4YF, and the graduate program will be allocated an additional 4YF to replace the 4YF awarded to their Indigenous student. (Note: if the nominee is not ranked high enough to be offered IGF funding, the graduate program will be responsible for providing 4YF funding from their existing 4YF allocation.)

Applicant deadline: 4:00pm PT Friday February 16, 2024, submitted to the RHSC Program Assistant

Graduate Program nomination to G+PS deadline: 4:00 pm PT on Friday 1 March 2024
