October Alumni of the Month – Flora To-Miles

Name: Flora To-Miles

Program: PhD

Graduated: 2021

Thesis: “The health-promoting potential of occupations : an exploratory study of adults with and without inflammatory arthritis”

How would you describe your research in the UBC Rehabilitation Sciences program?

My research explored the different activities that people with and without arthritis do in their everyday lives, and how they relate to their overall health. Since my research overlapped with the initial stages of COVID-19, I was also able to explore the changes in people’s activities and health during this time.

Where and what is your current position?

I’m currently working at UBC as a Health Research Development Officer at SPARC (Support Programs for Advancing Research Capacity), where I provide and manage support services and resources to increase researchers’ success rates with their funding applications. In this position, I am able to use my health research background, editing skills, as well as familiarity with the academic landscape.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I have a young family (3 kids) – so we enjoy hiking, kayaking, reading, and baking cookies together. I also enjoy reading sci-fi novels.

Congratulations Flora on being our featured Alumni of the Month for October!
