August Student of the Month: Gina Tsai

Name: Gina Tsai

Program: MSc

Supervisor: Dr. Ben Mortenson

Tell us a little bit about your lab!

The Rehabilitation Research Program (RRP) conducts research with the aim of enhancing the recovery process and improving rehabilitation outcomes for individuals with injuries and disabilities. The Mortenson Lab within the RRP conducts a variety of research on assistive technologies, spinal cord injuries, and caregiving.

What project are you currently working on?

I am conducting a qualitative study that focuses on understanding how assistive technology prescribers in Metro Vancouver perceive and approach the process of prescribing for immigrants. Being an immigrant myself, I am particularly interested in understanding how language, cultural, and systemic barriers impact the prescription process from the viewpoint of prescribers.

What do you like to do outside of academia?

Outside of academia, I have a passion for playing tennis. I am a competitive person and enjoy participating in various tennis tournaments. Additionally, I find great joy in hiking and exploring the beautiful views that Vancouver has to offer.

Congratulations Gina on being our featured Student of the Month for August!
