May Student of the Month: Sunaina Chopra

Name: Sunaina Chopra

Program: MSc

Supervisor: Dr. Pat Camp

Tell us a little bit about your lab!

I am currently a MSc candidate in Dr. Pat Camp’s Pulmonary Rehabilitation Research Laboratory at the UBC Centre for Heart Lung Innovation. With the focus on improving health outcomes for those with chronic lung disease, current studies in our lab focus on a wide variety of topics including wildfire smoke, telehealth and physical activity.

What project are you currently working on?

My project is looking at the physical activity experiences in First Nations communities, specifically focusing on individuals with chronic disease symptoms. This project is in partnership with Carrier Sekani Family Services (CSFS), a health and wellness society representing First Nations communities in north-central BC. This information will allow CSFS to improve physical activity programming within each of their member Nations and Bands.

What do you like to do outside of academia?

You will always find me in the kitchen baking a cheesecake or decorating sugar cookies when I’m not glued to my laptop. When I’m not taking my dog for walks or biking around Langley, I’m at the goat farm with goats milk gelato or enjoying fresh waffles in a field of sunflowers.

Congratulations Sunaina on being our featured Student of the Month for May! Interested in seeing what else our Rehabilitation Sciences students and trainees are working on? Stay tuned for our next feature!
