Name: Michael Prescott
Program: Doctor of Philosophy in Rehabilitation Sciences (PhD)
Graduated: May 2021
Dissertation: Towards a conceptual framework of navigation for people who use wheeled mobility devices in the community
How would you describe your research project in the UBC Rehabilitation Sciences program?
The focus of my research was on the mobility challenges people with disabilities have getting around their community. I used spatial tools to better understand the qualitative and quantitative nature of these challenges. In particular, I was interested in how wheeled mobility device users navigated urban and park environments.
Where and what is your current position?
I am just completing a postdoctoral research role in geomatics at Laval University and am a part of a team in SFU’s gerontology department. I recently joined Disability Alliance BC as the Project Manager for the Accessible Organizations project. I am also the CEO of every1included accessibility services.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I spend my (very limited) free time with my partner puppy sitting, listening to Old Time Radio shows, and traveling.
