April Alumni of the Month

Name: Sue Peters
Program: PhD
Dissertation Title: “The effect of stroke on attention and motor planning of voluntary leg movements”
How would you describe your research in the UBC Rehabilitation Sciences program?

Drs. S. Jayne Garland and Lara Boyd were my supervisors. My PhD research looked at neurophysiological mechanisms of movement preparation in the brain and muscle in older adults and people after stroke using electroencephalography and electromyography.

Where and what is your current position?

I’m currently an Assistant Professor at Western University in the School of Physical Therapy, Faculty of Health Sciences. My PhD work is foundational for my research program at UWO which is examining rehabilitation and recovery processes after stroke. In addition to EEG and EMG, we use fNIRS in this work.

How do you like to spend your free time?

I have joined an axe throwing league as well as a curling league. Both of these activities are great ways to enjoy the winter in Ontario 🙂
