Name: Briana Chau
Program: MSc
Graduated: 2021
Thesis: “The impact of an acute bout of high intensity exercise on corticospinal excitability and transcallosal inhibition in older adults”
How would you describe your research in the UBC Rehabilitation Sciences program?
I was able to grow as a researcher during my time in the program under the supervision of Dr. Lara Boyd. My thesis focused on exercise’s effects on neuroplasticity in older adults. I also had the opportunity to explore other related topics employing neurophysiological and neuroimaging techniques. I was very fortunate to have been connected to wonderful supportive colleagues in my lab who mentored me.
Where and what is your current position?
I am currently in my second year of medical school at UBC. Being able to contribute to clinical research while directly interacting with diverse patient populations, paired with the analytical and health research skills that I gained, has been extremely valuable in my current learning.
How do you like to spend your free time?
I enjoy travel, food, and coffee! I love trying to recreate my favourite foods of various cuisines from past travel experiences.
Congratulations Briana on being our featured Alumni of the Month for March!
