December Student of the Month: Thalia Otamendi

Name: Thalia Otamendi

Program: PhD

Supervisor: Dr. Linda Li

Tell us a little bit about your lab!

My lab setting is unique because I am co-supervised by Dr. Linda Li (RHSC) and Dr. Noah Silverberg (PSYC), and I also work out of the Rehabilitation Research Program at G.F. Strong. This means I am a member of three labs, which is exciting because I get to access all sorts of resources, join different lab meetings, and interact with a wide range of students, staff, and PIs. This multi-lab setting broadens my perspective on research and enhances my learning.

What project are you currently working on?

I just defended PhD Proposal over the summer, so now the exciting part of “doing the research” begins! I am also collaborating on a few other projects, so I can’t say there is much time for thumb twiddling 😊

What do you like to do outside of academia?

Call me a cliché Vancouverite, but you can often find me in the mountains or at the beach. I also like to experiment in the kitchen, with my most recent project being homemade Neapolitan pizza. I’d like to report a strong positive correlation between the amount of cheese used and the deliciousness of the pizza r(2) = .78, p = .03 (tiny sample size, I know).

Congratulations Thalia on being our featured Student of the Month for December! Interested in seeing what else our Rehabilitation Sciences students and trainees are working on? Stay tuned for our next feature!
